December 27th, 2022

The following message is from Bernadette (Bernie) O’Rourke, Extension Livestock Specialist:

“Find below the 2023 program offerings from the Wisconsin Youth Livestock Program.  Find attached social media graphics for your use.  A post will go out on social media through the social media channels in my email signature.  Feel free to like, follow and share posts.  Please share this information to any and all interested youth and adults in the beef, sheep, swine and meat goat areas.

Programming includes 3 virtual animal sciences sessions.  First one is January 9th.  We will be offering tours of the new Meat Science Building on 3 designated dates only.  We will host a carcass judges training for those that want to judge carcass shows.  4-H Meats Judging and 4-H State Quiz Bowl and Skillathon are scheduled as well.  Please click on the links for more information on program offerings and how to sign up.  Contact Bernie O’Rourke at borourke2@wisc.edu  with any questions.

These make great educational programming opportunities for all youth and those that exhibit at fairs.

Have a great holiday season and stay safe and warm these next few days!”

There are 3 options this year for kids to get certified.  1.  Instructor Led; 2.  Web based 3.  Test out – Online

Allowed YQCA instructors are:  1.  Extension personnel, 2.  Agri-Science instructors and 3. Veterinarians.

Friendly reminder, face to face instructor led meetings CAN NOT be held via Zoom or any online webinar format per a decision of the YQCA national board.

2020 Northeast Youth Livestock Show Update

DENMARK, Wis [June 1, 2020] – On Monday, June 1, 2020, the Northeast Youth Livestock Show announced the following statement regarding this year’s show:

The NEYLS Board of Directors wanted to provide you with an update on the status of the 2020 Northeast Youth Livestock Show. Safety is our top priority and we appreciate the support and encouragement you have sent. This drives us to work tirelessly together and ensure the 77th Northeast Youth Livestock Show takes place. At this current time, we continue to go forth with planning and preparation of the 2020 NEYLS.

The Northeast Youth Livestock Show educates Wisconsin’s youth on how to responsibly raise a market-ready animal which instills important life skills and provides purchases with excellent cuts of meat. We continue to discuss options that will allow all exhibitors, buyers, volunteers, and attendees with the best possible experience.

At this time the NEYLS Board of Directors has not made a formal decision on whether the Northeast Youth Livestock Show will go on as planned, September 12-14. However, until a decision is made, we will continue to work hard to make the show an experience for the youth.

The NEYLS Board of Directors will continue to communicate additional updates. Your endless support is appreciated. With that, we say THANK YOU!

YQCA Meetings

March 5th, 2018

Take a look at the Getting Your YQCA Web-Based Certificate.

You have been hearing in previous meetings and e-mails, we are using the online training YQCA in place of MAQA. This is a statewide change and transition. Below is the e-mail that describes how you receive your payment code and details on how to sign into the course.

IF you are in 3rd – 5th grade and attended the face-to-face meeting with Aerica on March 1st, disregard this e-mail. You will be sent a paper mailing with the way you will get your certificate. Everyone else, please continue reading.

Who needs to do this training? All members of the beef, sheep, swine, goat, dairy, meat rabbits, market poultry projects that are showing at the Kewaunee County Fair. Youth with “fancy bird” poultry projects or non-market rabbits can also take the training.

Is it required? Yes, it is required to show and sell these species at the Kewaunee County Fair. You are required to turn in a paper copy of your YQCA training completion certificate with your fair paperwork that is due by 4pm.

You should also be aware that all exhibitors at the WI State Fair (except horse) and Northeast Livestock Show will be required to have this training. The training that you do for county fair will work for the other shows but you will need to check what they require for verification of training. It is your responsibility to know what you need for these other shows and have it.

Cost: This year, the auction committee is covering the cost of this educational program both for the face-to-face training (normally $3.00 per person) and the online training (normally $12.00 per person.). Instead of entering your personal payment, you will enter a code. More information on retrieving this code is listed below.

How do I get my code: You will need to e-mail or call Louise at the UW-Extension Office Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-4:30pm. Louise’s phone number is (920)388-7135 and her e-mail is wolfe.louise@kewauneeco.org

Each code is individually assigned and only good for one person. For example, if there are 3 people in your family that need to go through the training, they will all receive an individual code. It will be your responsibility to get the code from the office or pay for it out of your own pocket. Please note, if you do chose to pay for it yourself, it will not be reimbursed.

What if I don’t have a computer or the internet? Please check with the local libraries. They have computers that can be used and are always super helpful. Also, other club or project members may be able to help you. If you cannot find access in another way, we can set-up an appointment for you to come and the UW-Extension office and use the equipment here. However, you will be to call and set-up a time to come in because we want to make sure that there is a room and equipment for you to use.

Once I have my code, how do I access the course?
